Leandro Rizzuto Jr., who is President Donald Trump’s nominee to be the ambassador to Barbados, has a long history of promoting fringe conspiracy theories on his Twitter account, The Raw Story reported.
A review of Rizzuto’s tweets by CNN has found that he once promoted a conspiracy theory in 2016 that claimed billionaire financier George Soros was secretly funding Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who at the time were Trump’s two remaining rivals for the Republican nomination for the presidency.
Rizzuto also retweeted a conspiracy theory alleging that Cruz’s wife, Heidi Cruz, was plotting to merge the United States government with the governments of Canada and Mexico.
“Heidi is an architect of the North American Union (NAU), whose goal is to destroy the sovereignty of the United States,” the tweet read. “If Ted becomes US President, it virtually ensures the dissolving of the USA and the formation of the NAU. This would put Heidi Cruz in line to become the First Lady — NOT of the USA, but of the new North American Union.”
Additionally, Rizzuto also retweeted another user who claimed that Satan had taken hold of Mitt Romney after he delivered a speech denouncing Trump in 2016.
